The font used for this album is Frisianus based on the work of artist Gerhard Munthe. Dissatisfied with the fitness of existing printing types for the book Draumkvæde (1900–04), Munthe hand-rendered the lettering, based upon medieval Scandinavian models. After its publication and enthusiastic reception, he worked with the German typefoundry Klingspor to produce this alphabet in type; however, Munthe’s type was never released, and was lost when the foundry was bombed during World War II. The typeface was made as a digitized version by Torbjørn Eng in 1994. Nemesis Divina was one of the first uses of Frisianus before the more mundane retail packaging designers discovered it. Interesting enough, when The University of St. Thomas and Minnesota Center for Book Arts made the exhibition Face the Nation – How national identity shaped modern typeface design their only reference for modern use of Frisianus is Nemesis Divina.
